Like any new organization to market these days, a key consideration when launching Cobe was “what is our identity?”. We sought a name that means something …and that is easy to remember. Something that is short and snappy …and that also has a domain name available to use!
Cobe took inspiration from a satellite that was launched in the late 1980’s (much like many of our employees!). The Cosmic Background Explorer (COBE) was dedicated to cosmology, the branch of astronomy focused on the origin and evolution of the universe – from the beginning to today, and on into the future.
COBE’s measurements provided two key pieces of evidence that supported the Big Bang theory of the universe: that the CMB has a near-perfect black-body spectrum, and that it has very faint anisotropies. According to the Nobel Prize committee, “the COBE-project can also be regarded as the starting point for cosmology as a precision science”. Pretty cool huh?
Cobe provides Service-Centric Intelligence into business applications running in a Microservices environment. By providing contextual insights for DevOps through visualization of an application’s topology, interdependencies and associated performance metrics, the Cobe platform delivers improved diagnostics and reduced MTTR. Cobe will remain an innovative thought leader and leverage the Open Source community by providing tools that help deliver and manage cloud native deployments.
Roy Coutinho – Rainmaker
Successful entrepreneur and investor. Roy has considerable international big ticket sales experience, taking responsibility for making the difference to the bottom line. Roy’s first business was an IT services business for which he orchestrated a lucrative exit to a competitor.
In addition Roy had been responsible for taking a dot.com business from launch to a sale to RBS and overseeing the development of an 8,000-seat call centre operation, which was subsequently sold to an international call centre operator.
Andy Onacko – Chairman
Serial entrepreneur. His background is in Managed Services where he amassed a detailed understanding of company restructuring and technology integrations.
In 1999 Andrew formed Abilitec, a provider of IT Operations management solutions, and in 2004 founded software development company Abilisoft, to complement the Abilitec business. Abilitec was subsequently acquired by Innovise plc in 2007.
Iain Lambert – CEO
Having worked at multiple start up software businesses over the last 20 years, Iain has broad experience covering Sales, Pipeline Management, Alliances, Channels and Consulting. All aspects of GTM planning with experience from being part of teams that have resulted in 1 x IPO (MUSE) and 3 x trade sales, Tideway (BMC), Transitive (IBM) & DynamicOps (VMware).
Alan Simpson – CTO
Seasoned CTO with a successful track record of leading teams to deliver innovative software solutions and in running a boutique MSP business. Most recently Alan was helping organisations with digital transformation. This involved containerizing customer’s applications and moving them to the Cloud. He is equally at home defining the technical product roadmap or getting hands on with code.
At Cobe Alan is responsible for overseeing all technical aspects and technological resources of the company.
In our short history, Cobe has already been recognised as an innovative provider of disruptive technology. In 2016 a Queen’s Award for Enterprise Innovation was given to Cobe’s parent company in recognition of the unique troubleshooting capabilities that the platform offers.

We are seeking an experienced Python Software Engineer to join our Development team. This role is deeply technical and requires an extremely versatile individual who is good problem solver, able to gain an understanding of new topics, tools and concepts quickly, and then apply that understanding to create solutions in a reproducible and sustainable way.
We are seeking someone with solid Python experience and a thirst to know more. Someone who deeply cares about testing and test driven development, and enjoys peer code review. The successful candidate will be a positive, proactive team player passionate about delivering high quality features that our customers will quickly benefit from.
We are looking for someone with solid front-end development experience and a thirst to know more. Someone who deeply cares about testing and test driven development, and enjoys peer code review. You will be helping us develop a rich user experience that allows a user search and traverse a complicated, directed multi-graph data model together with huge amounts of related time-series data.
You will be coding against REST APIs and utilising PubSub APIs over web sockets. You will also be responsible for improving our SaaS portal and the customers on-boarding experience, making it as seamless as possible. You will have had plenty of experience developing jaw-droppingly cool user interfaces. You will have a mastery of UI technologies and understand how to deliver the rich user experience our sophisticated users demand.
We adore “learning engineers” who are passionate about their craft and relish interactions with the community. The role focusses on generating leads for the sales team by converting incoming enquiries as well as proactively reaching out to target prospect companies. You will need to research companies and identify key decision makers and then make appointments with those organizations.
To do this you will need to be business savvy and able to articulate how Cobe’s solution aligns to the business requirements of prospective customers.
Plenty of potential to either run the team or move into an external sales account manager role.
